Elsi Vassdal Ellis teaches electronic pre-press/offset printing, graphic design history and book arts in the Department of Art at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. She began with a technical background in photocomposition and moved into typographic work with letterpress, eventually focusing on issues of war and genocide so that her books are designed as ˇ°intimate witnessesˇ± or testaments to history and human behavior. She and her husband live with their dogs on 20 acres of restored wetlands overlooking Mt. Baker, where the environment provides an inspiring and restful space to work.
