Catherine Michaelis discovered letterpress printing and artists¡¯ books while studying creative writing. After learning to print, she studied papermaking and decorating as well as bookbinding. She has been making letterpress books since 1989 while training at Laughing Dog Press and began publishing under the imprint of May Day Press in 1992. Since then, she has published 27 other edition books, several one-of-a-kind books, broadsides and prints. Her work has been collected nationally. She lives and works on Vashon Island in Washington State.
