Born in 1958, Li Yan-Peng is from Shenze in Hebei Province.
He graduated from the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine
Arts, Beijing, in 1981. His reduction woodcuts depict wide stretches of
mountains and cultivated land, vernacular architecture and figures and animals
in subdued tones of color and with an overlaid texture of parallel lines. They
show a quiet vision of nature that is quite distinct both from the
sentimentality of rustic scenes in painting and prints, and from the
glorification of the landscape and nature in the Heilongjiang school of
printmaking.
