Description

I often weave to classical or sacred pipe organ music. As a child, I listened to many beautiful pieces played by my mother,  a church organist. The specific piece or anthem that inspired this shawl project is called the Grand Choeur Dialogue, and was written by the Parisian organist, Eugene Gigout (1844-1925). The composer places it as the last piece of a six-part suite and features a beautiful and mysterious “musical dialogue” between the main and the choir organs. It occurred to me that perhaps this dialogue could represent the conversation that I often have between my known self (light side) and my unknown self (shadow side) and maybe even further celebrate the grand adventure of just being myself!! So, I designed these shawls to represent these two “sides”; a lighter and a darker side… in a conversation with each other. If you look closely at the shawls, you will see this light/dark interplay between them. I believe that we are all in constant dialogue between our light side and our shadow side. We can, however, continue to grow and develop and evolve.. moving further towards the Light!
